According to a study published recently in the authoritative journal Archives of Internal medicine, people with chronic low back pain, the common back pain, received greater benefit from acupuncture, real or simulated, compared to those treated only with conventional treatments.
The study was carried out on a large number of adult patients, 600 who had never been subjected to acupuncture in the past divided into four groups.

the first group was applied by a localized and personalized acupuncture performed by a physician experienced in the second group instead underwent a session of general interest to the acupuncture points that are normally indicated in the treatment of low back pain, but without a custom program; The third group was subjected to a simulated session of acupuncture, without use of needles but with normal toothpick, then without penetration under the skin.

Finally the fourth group was subjected to a series of traditional treatments, with drugs and physical therapy.
The experiment lasted eight weeks after which there have been some interesting results. First, the first three groups, who have undergone acupuncture, have been improved considerably higher than the fourth group, which received conventional treatment.
But perhaps more interesting is that the difference between the effects of three different applications of acupuncture, that custom and generic and that was not simulated almost nothing significant.

Who has not ever had a backache? Backaches and back pain are common and can sometimes be caused by poor posture, lack of exercise or stress. However, often due to problems of the spine. In both cases, the practice of yoga can radically change the lives of people with acute or chronic low back pain.

The stress of daily life, physical inactivity and poor posture, can cause acute or chronic pain in different parts of the back, being very well known in the lower part of the same, better known as lumbago. These pains can be easily relieved by the practice of certain yoga positions.

As in any practice of Yoga, an essential part of it is the proper breathing. If you suffer regularly from back pain before you started on the practice of the recommended positions, it is very important that you learn to breathe correctly.

These forms of breathing are very important for the successful completion of the exercises in Yoga, in the treatment of acute pain and chronic low back pain. Yoga exercises relieve your back pain by increasing the elasticity of the tissues, through flexion, extension and rotation of the spine.

However, remember that before starting any physical exercises, including yoga and enjoy its benefits, you should consult your doctor to evaluate your convenience, in your case.

Physical therapy involving electrical stimulation of the nerve-carriage, behavior therapy, exercise, spinal manipulation and feedback therapy is also beneficial. Your doctor can also refer you to a chiropractor for spinal manipulation. Other treatment options that are effective when used along with medication include acupuncture, massage with natural oils, hydrotherapy, biofeedback, meditation and yoga.

Natural and holistic medicine has been used for thousands of years to treat pain and discomfort of back pain. Treatments such as herbal and homeopathic remedies are safe and gentle to use without the unwanted side effects of prescription medicine.
If you have spent years beyond that use or abuse of your back, you’re an active athlete, you are pregnant, or you suffered a back injury at some point in your life with long-term back pain is a condition that affects More than half of all working Americans. It may be caused by medical conditions such as cancer, lartrite and linfezione or can be caused by mechanical injury such as muscle pulls, muscle tears, sprained ligaments, and discs or broken. In fact, back pain is the most common reason for missing work and is the second most common reason for visits to doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper respiratory infections. Americans spend at least $ 50 billion each year on back pain, and experts suggest that as many as 80 of the population experience back pain at some point.

Almost every movement of the human body involves the use of the back in some way, making any sort of return to live with the condition unbearable. Due to the increasing number of back injuries and costs associated with them, the demand for products that help relieve the pain of back pain and back injuries have increased dramatically. The population as a whole does not want to spend the rest of their lives depends on pain medication, and most can not afford or do not have lassicurazione to cover the cost of a chiropractor.

Fortunately, a wide range of highly effective products are available for the average consumer to help ease the suffering of back pain. Most of the costs are very effective and none of them involves the use of drugs. These products are designed by physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers that you see on a daily basis what life with back pain may be similar.

I have 24 years. For about seven months I suffer severe pain in my left upper limb, which at times includes part of the area left side and that side of the back.

After several tests (MRI, elbow, shoulder and cervical radiographs in the same places, apart from an electromyogram in the left arm), the findings of the orthopedic surgeon are not present any problem that way.

I lost muscle mass in both the arm and in the back but the doctor says he does not seem serious and I guess it’s because they use the arm because of pain. Only I calm ibuprofen pain that is unbearable at times. His recommendation is to visit the neurologist, but the truth is that I’m a bit concerned are still seven months and I miss the pain. Some clues to the diagnosis:

- In October I had a car accident. I got behind and suffered a severe whiplash in the neck. I have looked at the vertebrae and I have found nothing.

- That I broke my arm 10 years ago. Was the humerus. I had cramps for three months and it seems that was good, although since emtonces lost a bit of mobility and strength in that arm.

- In view of the data that you sent me, I think the most logical thing would be that it study a neurologist and, if he sees no problem, you should request that they study and treated in a Pain Unit.

Anyway, and for peace of mind, a picture of pain that is relieved with ibuprofen, there may be a consequence of a serious problem.

Most neck pain is transient of unknown cause. Potentially serious causes of neck problems usually result from injury or degenerative or inflammatory diseases of the cervical joints. Given the proximity of the joint structures and nervous (in the joints and nerves) in the cervical spine, joint disease has the potential to result in nerve pain, usually the most serious of cervical pathology.

The disease produces severe cervical symptoms beyond the confines of the cervical region, often without symptoms in the neck itself, and typically these symptoms are neurological. Any disorder associated with erosion of cartilage or discs, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatic, spondyloarthropathies, and fibromyalgia is associated with symptoms in the neck region.

Pain
To address this problem, the three most important data are time, history and musculoskeletal symptoms in other body parts. When pain is of recent onset, without prior injuries, is limited to the neck, and no other specific indications, it should provide a simple symptomatic therapy. When there is no history of trauma or injury, often as a hyperextension of the neck it should initiate a diagnostic evaluation and conservative.

Neck pain is accompanied by general musculoskeletal pain derive the possibility of fibromyalgia, while neck pain with synovitis (inflammation of the synovial membrane) suggests peripheral joint rheumatoid arthritis or other inflammatory arthropathy. In these cases the cervical spine is probably not the best place to inquire. When the problem is more chronic and confined to the neck and shoulders, especially in older subjects, degenerative diseases are more likely, and a few simple radiographs may aid in the diagnosis

The most common cause of middle back pain is leading to filter overuse of muscles in the middle of the back. Doctors commonly suggest conservative treatments such as rest, back braces or physical exercises customized therapy. Surgery is recommended in less than 10% of cases of middle back pain. Chiropractic therapy is suggested in cases of middle back pain unresponsive to more conservative methods commonly practiced.

Rest for middle back pain

For the most common cause of middle back pain – the best treatment for sprains is rest. Your doctor will probably ask you to spend the majority of their time lying on a flat hard surface like a floor or a very firm mattress. The rest will allow any damage to the muscle tissue or ligament heals, which will lessen the pain in the area of the middle back. While this is not recommended for long-term treatment, the rest can help eliminate the minor pain or be a great first step in healing a back problem a half serious.

Cancer pain: the pain of a disease based cancer and is associated usually with the sense of loneliness and anxiety of chronic illness. You can have different origins, such as compression of a tissue by the tumor itself, the appearance of neuropathy or be derived from the undesirable effects of proper treatment of underlying disease. It’s a pain that, as intense usually requires an aggressive approach by all appropriate measures, pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic.

Musculo-skeletal pain: in this case, one of the main concerns is the avoidance of the appearance of immobility syndrome: if the patient has muscle or joint pain, tend to move less and receive the consequences of this syndrome, such as impaired functional, the occurrence of pressure ulcers or psychological and social disturbances. The origins are the most common bone or joint disorders (bone deformities, osteomalacia, fractures, arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatic diseases, etc.) And disease-splenic alterations such as ramps or muscle contractures.

Neuropathic pain: The pain is intrinsic to the nerve that transmits information. While not as common as musculoskeletal pain, its prevalence is important in this age group. It usually has an added difficulty in their treatment, and its origin is usually producing disease neuropathy (diabetes, herpes zoster, trigeminal neuropathy, phantom limb, etc.).

Being a subjective symptom pain is highly variable between individuals and also variable in the same patient depending on the circumstances that accompany it, a proper assessment of pain is of high difficulty. Similarly, in cases where there are difficulties in communication with the patient (dementia, aphasia, impaired consciousness, etc.). The assessment of pain will be even more difficult, but equally important will continue treatment in an attempt to improve the quality of life of patients.

In young adults there are many pain assessment scales, but many of them are useless in geriatric patients because of its unique features: Many scales include impossible to complete long questionnaires by patients with any cognitive impairment or who feel tired easily. However, some simple scales have shown great utility for its validity and sensitivity in the detection and assessment of pain, such as the Visual Analogue Scale and Scale Numerical, Verbal Scale to evaluate pain or facial expression scales.

For a correct assessment of pain in the geriatric patient will be essential to the specific inclusion of this symptom in the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment of all patients. Like in many other pathologies, the presentation of pain in the elderly not just as evidence in young adults, in elderly patients, pain can be a first manifestation as confusion, aggression, fatigue or anorexia, or in other ways, without ever explicitly demonstrate the existence of pain.
